Hot Chocolate Mix

I have been working on this mix to perfect it according to my sweet tooth!

Have you ever looked at the label on your box of hot chocolate? Have you ever wondered exactly what is in those convenient little packets?

As you know from my older posts, I like to know what I am putting in my body. I love to find ‘from scratch’ recipes for the things my family loves the most.

Since it is FREEZING cold up here most of the days, we enjoy drinking hot chocolate. We bought some and I was soon staring at the ingredient list and scratching my head trying to figure out how to pronounce some of the items on it.

Check out this ingredient label:

Needless to say, I made my own. This recipe is SUPER simple to make. I searched high and low to try to find a powder recipe that was just as convenient as those little packets. Most of the recipes I found had you shaving chocolate bark into scaled milk with sugar and so on; too involved for a simple cup of hot chocolate.

So, I drug out these things (plus some powdered milk):

I mixed them up and put them in a jar.

Now check out this next picture.
Both my powder and the ‘leading name brand’ powder appear to look the same in powder form.

But, you can see the difference after your stir them up.

The one on the left is my cup. The one on the right is the other stuff. Do you see the stuff floating on top? WHAT IS THAT STUFF?! It just won’t dissolve. And guess what, if you leave it sitting long enough, that stuff sinks to the bottom of the cup and when you are finished drinking it, there is a gooey coating of stuff in the bottom of your cup!

Here is my ultra simple recipe for hot chocolate powder mix:

½ cup of cocoa powder
2 cups of sugar
3 cups of powdered milk
Dash of salt

Mix with a wire wisk.
Use 2 Tablespoons of mix per 6 oz. water.

Burgers

Yesterday, I made some more bread.
Instead of making one of the loaves, I made
HAMBURGER BUNS!!!

I present to you the making of:
The Bacon Cheeseburger!

THE BACON

THE CHEESE

THE BUNS

TA DA - THE BURGER!
Michael's of course, I would never mess up my burger with pickles and mustard!
This picture was taken before he smooshed it down so he could bite it.

Cari was very excited!  She LOVES Cheeseburgers!

Brace yourself... Even Hannah ate a completely assembled Cheeseburger!
She normally eats the bread, the hamburger and the cheese separately.  She doesn't like her food mixed up like that.  She was very excited that she liked the combination together!

ICE

I have been wanting to stop and take these pictures for a while.  These are some pictures of the ice on the side of the mountains.  Sometimes it looks blueish or greenish.  We think it is the minerals making it look that way.

Check these out:
