Nearing the End

We are putting on the finishing touches.  No, we are not hanging pictures and curtains.  Finishing touches to me include toilets.  Those are still waiting to be installed.  Take a look at what has been happening.

After the cabinets were hung, the counter tops in the bathrooms were next to be installed.

Here is the guest bathroom's counter top.

Here is the master bathroom's counter top.
The piece sticking out a little is the folding table.
The washer and dryer will be on the end.

Here is a picture of the crown molding.
It is little things like this that make it look finished.

Here is the flooring for the master bathroom (and the SUPER cute installer).

The appliances have arrived!!!
I cannot wait to see these installed!

My dad made this wood pile in his garage.
His wood burning stove in the basement is NICE!
It has kept us toasty!

Check it out!  We have a kitchen sink!!!

Michael and Pop are starting to install the cork flooring in the living room.

Here is a couple shots from different angles.

The floor is finished!!!
Here is a picture of the master bedroom.

Here is my pantry.  Imagine the shelves for now.

Now that the floor is finished, it is time for the bar.
This will serve as my dining room table.
In this picture, my dad is trying to show me how to level the bar legs.

In this picture, I am under the table waiting for my dad to crawl under the apartment and screw the legs down to the floor.

And here is the bar.  My dad is screwing down the top board.
YEA!!! I have a place to eat now!!
No more saw buck and crawl space door table!

I am standing in the doorway of the pantry taking this picture. Pretty self explanatory. As soon as I left the premises, I came back and my kitchen was trashed. I asked who made this mess, and nobody confessed.
A mess like this could only mean one thing....
PROGRESS. *smile*

Finishing Work on "The New Pad"

We have started some of the finishing work on our apartment.  The last you saw was insulation.  Lots and lots and lots have been going on.  Check it out...

We have SHEET ROCK!!!  WOOOOO HOOOO!!!
I am standing at my kitchen door taking the picture of the kitchen through to the living room.  At this point, as you can see, they have just hung it on the walls, no finishing tape or mud yet.

This is our side yard.  They are putting in the water lines.

Porch railing and pickets.

Gutter.

Painting.  This is our half bath.  Guess who picked this color.

Garage doors.

Grading the yard.

Driveway and sidewalk.

Sowing grass.

Painting floor trim.

Our first meal in our apartment.
We made a table out of the crawl space door and a couple of work platforms.
The walls are not really yellow like they look in this picture.
They are a very plain tan color.

Talking about firsts.  There were some firsts for me.
I used a table saw for the first time.  My dad and I cut a huge slab of wood to put under the cabinets.  Of course, this picture is of my love.  You would NOT want to be taking pictures while using a table saw.
I wore safety glasses on the second piece.  You see, I have never paid very close attention to how one of these things work.  There is one side that you can stand on that is the 'good' side and the other side blows up sawdust in your face.
Guess which side I was on.

I used this air stapler for the first time.  I normally do not use any type of tools other than a paint brush while building a house.  This was fun to use.  I also made sure to wear my safety glasses after pulling the trigger and nailing about 8 nails very very close together.  This thing is similar to an automatic weapon.

And last but not least, I helped my dad install our crawl space door.  I almost got my finger mashed off and there are bugs that live down there that seem like they can jump about 25 feet in one single hop.
Not a place I want to frequent.

The cabinets have arrived!!!

My love is tired.  He helped those guys unload all of the kitchen cabinets.  Don't forget that everything you see happening on our side is also happening on the other side of this duplex apartment.
So, double all of these cabinets you see.  That is how many they unloaded.

The first piece that was installed.
This bookshelf is in the our hallway.

Half bath.

Laundry room.

A love note...

My dad working on the backsplash.
He is cutting out holes for the plugs and switches.

The first kitchen cabinet.

This one was heavy.  It took a few of us to hold it up while my dad put screws in it.

Almost done?

Nope.  We had to take this one back out and sand it off a little.

Almost done.

Yeaaaa!!  The kitchen cabinets are done.

This is on the other side of the kitchen.

You have just been updated.  I was informed today that all of the cabinets have been installed.  Now it is on to the counter tops, plumbing, spackling, trim and door painting, heating and air conditioning and flooring.
